POWER Foundation recently hosted a transformative maternal and child health event at Sancta Maria Hospital, focusing on promoting exclusive breastfeeding, routine immunization, breast hygiene, and overall maternal health. This initiative was designed to empower mothers, caregivers, and young children with the knowledge and resources needed to lead healthier lives.
Event Highlights
The event was specifically tailored for breastfeeding mothers, expectant mothers, caregivers, and children under six. Our primary goal was to enhance awareness and improve practices related to breastfeeding, immunization, and hygiene. By doing so, we aimed to make a lasting impact on the well-being of mothers and their children in the community. Here’s a look at the key activities that took place:
Health Education: We conducted informative sessions covering exclusive breastfeeding, breast hygiene, and the importance of completing routine immunization schedules. These sessions provided valuable knowledge to help mothers and caregivers make informed decisions about their children’s health.
Health Treatments: Children aged 6 to 11 months received essential Vitamin A supplementation and deworming treatments. These treatments are vital for the healthy growth and development of young children, ensuring they start life on the right foot.
Exercise Session: Pregnant women participated in a guided exercise session, designed to promote physical well-being and prepare them for healthy deliveries. This session was a great way to engage expectant mothers and emphasize the importance of staying active during pregnancy.
Incentives: To further support and encourage healthy practices, we distributed essential items such as diapers, children’s utensils, and birthing kits. These items play a crucial role in ensuring the comfort and well-being of both mothers and their children.
Impact and Outcomes
The event significantly increased awareness about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, improved adherence to child immunization schedules, enhanced hygiene practices, and bettered maternal health. These outcomes contribute to our overarching goal of improving community health, one family at a time.
Gratitude for Our Partners
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Silver Lining for the Needy Initiative (SLNI) for their invaluable collaboration and support. Their partnership played a pivotal role in amplifying the impact of our efforts, making this event a resounding success.
