In celebration of World Humanitarian Day on August 20, 2024, Power Foundation, in collaboration with Silver Lining for the Needy Initiative (SLNI), launched a Youth Skills Acquisition Training Program aimed at empowering young people aged 18 to 30 in Imo State.
Hands-On Training for Future Success
The program, which began on August 20, 2024, focuses on providing six young individuals with practical skills in barbing and hairdressing. Over the course of two months, participants engage in hands-on training, learning directly from experienced professionals at mentors’ workshops. Training is conducted five days a week, ensuring participants receive thorough instruction in their chosen craft.
The initiative is designed not only to equip these young people with valuable skills but also to foster entrepreneurship and self-reliance. Whether they choose to start their own businesses or seek employment in the hairdressing and barbing industries, the program opens doors to new opportunities for growth and economic independence.
Tackling Youth Unemployment
This skills acquisition program plays a critical role in addressing the growing issue of youth unemployment. By providing practical, in-demand skills, Power Foundation and SLNI are helping to reduce unemployment among the youth, while fostering personal and community development.
The participants are not only learning technical skills, but they are also gaining business acumen and the confidence to pursue their professional goals. The initiative is a positive step toward creating sustainable livelihoods and empowering the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.
A Joint Effort for a Brighter Future
This collaborative effort between Power Foundation and SLNI reflects both organizations’ commitment to youth empowerment and community development. By investing in the future of these young people, the Youth Skills Acquisition Program contributes to long-term social and economic growth in Imo State.
As the program progresses, participants will continue to build on their new skills, and the impact of this initiative will be felt for years to come, helping to shape the future of the community by empowering its youth.
